Do you also have Imposter Syndrome?

Yes, the least frequently updated blog on the web is back… with an update, a name change and a new frequency. Check back every two weeks for more news and updates on my latest projects.

DOTHA

DOTHA is back!

And I’m not referring to some kind of moth invasion although that could be pretty cool (if they were giant and carnivorous).

Like all good horror entities – DOTHA (Death of the Horror Anthology) – is back from the dead and preparing to scare the crap outta you. The lineup of creators for the book is simply fantastic and I can’t wait to see the twisted tales they’ve created.

I’ve been working on a story with talented artist Ariel S. Viola, and hope to share a sneak peek in the next update. The anthology comes to Kickstarter on October 1st and will be published through A Wave Blue World in early 2019.

Scratcher

Issue three is nearing completion and will be available in the fall. Juan’s artwork continues to amaze, and his new spine-tingling pages see Dee descend further into her own personal maelstrom. Don’t believe me? Check out this fabulous page from the new issue!

Be sure to check out more of Juan’s work on his website.

Issue four – the final issue – is written but needs a few tweaks, and the aim is to complete the mini-series early in 2019. Stay tuned for more details, but please pick up copies of the first two issues for less than the price of a coffee by clicking the link below.

In theory

The words “exciting” and “physics” seldom seem to go together, but in this section I’ll highlight a recent paper of interest in the field.

Arguably the most interesting physics paper of the past few weeks is “What if string theory has no de Sitter vacua” by Danielsson and Van Riet, who argue solutions violating the swampland conjecture cannot be embedded in string theory (so cannot be UV complete).

One of the possible explanations for the existence of dark energy is that the universe has some kind of “minimum” – non-zero – vacuum energy; a de Sitter vacuum. As string theory is a good candidate for decribing quantum gravity, we should expect to find stable de Sitter vacua emerging from string theory. And we do. However, the Danielsson & Van Riet paper suggests this isn’t correct; the solutions we have found so far are actually outside of a string theory framework and therefore potentially unreliable.

Is this correct? Only time will tell.

See ya in two weeks!
